I had an original '57 Fender amp cabinet which was given to me about 15 years ago. Only thing was, somebody went and painted the tweed black! So I recently removed the covering and all the old glue. Then I sanded it down nice & smooth. After that I mounted a Jensen Neo 12" speaker inside and stuck in a Crate Power Block amp as well. I made up different back panels since the originals weren't made of pine and wouldn't quite match. My PODxt plugs into the top input jack.
It's feather weight and sounds terrific!

So, Jay, are you playing only through the Crate and the neo speaker, and no Fender Deluxe chassis at all? What do the knobs on top do? I guess the classic looks and light weight are nice; but if you are just playing through a cheap solid state amp and a modern speaker, most Fender tube junkies would be apalled. Shocked

The only thing that was given to me was the empty cabinet.
It's definitely not for "tube junkies", but I have an all original '57 Deluxe for that Exclamation
The Crate CPB 150's are cheap (price wise), but as many others have posted in the past...they sound pretty darn good! And they're small and compact. I knew someone would ask about the knobs on top. The top panel is just cosmetic...a piece of sheet metal (with chrome covering I put on) & some old pots, knobs, switch. etc. mounted in there. Looks better than an open space.

Jay
I noticed the upper rear panel doesn't have
any vents in it, does the amp run hot?

The amp itself sits on the bottom of the cabinet, so any heat
should vent through the opening between the two back panels.
To be honest, I don't see where these power block amps generate
all that much heat anyway. Does anyone elses run hot?
