Topic: How does the BLXR16 sound on a Carter |

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how the Bill Lawrence sound on the Carter Steel Guitar.
I have ordered mine and requested that pickup on that steel guitar, as I heard they are really great sounding

| No, I can't describe how it sounds (honestly--I have given up trying to describe things like this) but I can tell that after messing around with 3 other pickups on my Carter, this was & is my choice. I think it works well with my lacquer SD-12. Congrats on your new guitar-to-be. |

| I really like the LXR-16 in my Carter...and I've tried a few other pickups in it. It came with an E66 which I found brittle past about the 10th fret. I got great sound with an 18Kohm Truetone, but also more hum than I like. A Lawrence 910 sounds great in mine too but doesn't have quite enough bite for live performances. The LXR-16 sparkles and cuts through without sounding abrasive. Overall it's my favorite among the pickups I've used. |

| I had one in my Carter and it sounded much better "more mids"to me than the E-66's that it came with...Brittle that's a good way to describe those pickups. |

| If you're looking for the PP sound the XR is the only way to go. Great pick up, I have had clear and consistant tone qualities from it. J.C. |

| I've just bought a new D-10 Carter and the XR-16's wil be in it. I found out with my first Carter which was a D-10 black mica, that the XR-16 is the way to go on a Carter. Actually, they sent the black D-10 with the wrong p/u. That's a mistake I'm glad was made. Carter is a fine guitar. I've now bought 7 new ones. My other favorite p/u is the George L 10-1 SS. |

I have true tones on both necks, every Friday for the last 3 weeks, at Quitman some one has come up while I was playing and said how much they like the sound of my Carter with a 112 and a DD3, thats all.

Johnny Cox..you mention that if your looking for the PP sound that the LXR-16 is the way to go,I currently have one on my Desert Rose D-10 wood neck guitar which is very ZB..ish sounding and it is without a doubt my favorite pickup.I think that says a lot about the pickup because my guitar is the total opposite of the PP sound

| Two ends of the spectrum ...P/P tone from some folks, and ZB tones from others !!....I guess that just tells us that not all steels are created equal when using the same pickup ....I don't think anybody would complain at all with either P/P tones, or ZBish tones !!.... I was playing a Carter with XR-16's and a steel player who happened to be in the club thought I was playing a push pull.
I've had them on a few Carters I've owned and they are the way to go. |

| With all the positives about the BLXR16 on a Carter I've read on this and other posts, it begs the question why is the George L E66 the stock pickup the Carter folks decided to use on their great steels? |

| Mitch I think they were using the GL pickups because the XR-16 is only a recent addition to the BL stable. The XR-16 seems to be the 'factory" pickup on the Lacquer Carters ! |
