I brought my lap to SAMusic today to try some pedals. I thought I had my mind set on a distortion one but they had a whole panel set up to try them. It was fun. I especially liked the boss blues and super overdrive. A guy there tried my Gibson although I was a bit apprehensive. Another guy invited me to jam with his band playing at a nearby watering hole. I couldn't resist a chorus of Sleepwalk. I need one more trip back to decide on the pedal as I will only be buying one right now. I had a great time.

Hi, Ron.
Sounds like you had fun. Consider checking out a Digitech RP200, lots of programability, sounds great, and the best part is you can name your own presets. It's really handy on a dark stage to be able to select MUTE,or LAP LD, or MANDO, or whatever else you use your pedal for and have a nice large green display to assure you of where you're at. If you don't play live, there's lots of pedals to choose from... |

sounds like fun Ron. the overdrive pedals are well suited for lap steel. they give a nice loose gravelly tone. a little goes along way. a Tubescreamer was my final choice.
I am jamming tonight with my lap steel. wanted to bring my tele, but the guys want my steel down there. |

Ron, get a Turbo Tubescreamer. It offers quite a few variations on the classic overdrive. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

On Dan Tyack's advice, I tried a Seymour Duncan Twin tube. It's a little more expensive than most stomp boxes, but puts the rest to shame. It has two swithcable channels, and real tubes, for any level of grit or real tube overdrive you want. It really is a small, inexpensive tube preamp. It immediately ended my confusing stomp box quest. |

I'll agree with Dave's post, word for word. The Twin Tube is the perfect overdive for steel, for me. |

Hermida Zendrive is my favorite.
Good luck finding one! |

I like my Boss Super OD and My Fulldrive II; but recently got a Barber LTD Silver. Very quiet and amazingly warm with all My lap steels, especially the GIbson. Oddly enough, my POD XT does not do it for me like floor boxes. |
