Attention: Carter guitar owner
I have a 2006 Carter, and I have this problem, that I hope some of you can address. On the E9th neck. My RKL raises
the 1st & 2nd, and lowers the 6th, I have to push the knee
lever quite a distance to get the 1st, 2nd to pitch, that the
6th will lower so much that it will start to raise. I can get the 6th to the right pitch, but have to travel more to get the 1st 2nd to pitch, That is when the string will start raising and then
come back to pitch. which makes it go thru the lower-raise-lower cycle. which sticks out like a sore thumb. I hope I made it clear enough to know what I am talking about. If I can't
find help here, I will have to call Carter after the Holidays. |

This shouldn't be difficult, Joe. You need to determine which hole in the changer and which slot in the rod puller (bell crank) the rod for the 6th string lower is currently in.
You want the lever to make the changer move a lot less on the 6th string while it's doing its thing on 1 & 2.
---You want to move the rod to a hole in the changer that is lower down---closer to the bottom of the guitar.
---And/or you want the rod to be hooked to a slot in the puller that is higher up---closer to the top of the guitar.
This will mean that the same amount of lever movement will cause less changer movement.
When you are making decisions in what kind of changes to make in the rodding of the guitar you need to consider what other rods may be in the way---sometimes a small rerodding job can turn into a chain reaction of moving a bunch of other things.
So if you are unsure what to do, report back on just exactly what you've got now and we can kick around the options.
BTW---I am assuming that you have already tried to simply reduce the amount of pull at the nylon tuning nut---unscrewing the nut for the 6th string lower?

Thank Jon and Mike for the reply.
Jon, I had thought about doing that, But wasn't sure If
I should try it before I heard from some of you. So, now I will
flip it and go to work> hoping to not get into a lot's of changing
to get to it. and If I run into a problem with it I will take Mike's
advise and read the instuctions, That always seems to help. |

Be aware that your Carter may have an extra rod on the sixth string, which allows split tuning.
If you are a novice steel mechanic, this will confuse the issue. |

Yep, Richard. It has 3 rods and being a novice I better
call John Fabian, It probably just out of adjustment because
when I got it, it was working ok. |

The stock Carter setup on E9 has 3 rods for RKL, but there's nothing confusing about it. On E9, RKL raises 1 a whole step, lowers 6 a whole step, and lowers C6 3rd string a half step.
The 6th string whole tone drop on E9 is split with the B pedal to produce a half-tone drop. Tuning the E9 6th string pull is done by first making sure the nylon tuner for string 6 is tight enough to get the entire whole tone drop with RKL, tuning the whole tone drop using the 6th string changer finger stop hex screw, then depressing the B pedal while holding RKL and tuning the split note with the nylon tuner for string 6.
If RKL won't pull string 6 down a whole tone, the nylon tuner is not tight enough. |

Billy, I believe I may have found the problem. I readjusted
the split tuner rod, and it seem to be better, But, I may call on you at a later date, And thanks for everthing.
