I am recording my new CD next week in NYC. Unfortunately, Maurice "Reece" Anderson will not be on it. He had personal reasons for not doing it which I respect. Don't worry, Reece and I are still good friends and we will continue to play together. Also don't worry because I have a great steel guitarist who will replace him on the CD. It's Dave Easley. This will be a further step into modern Jazz and Dave will do a fantastic job and he will be all over the CD. The players are myself on guitar, Seamus Blake on sax, Dave Easley on pedal steel guitar, Alan Hampton on acoustic bass, and Reggie Quinerly on the drums. I hope to have it released by the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree in early March. It looks like my buddy Jim Cohen will be in the studio to see the session. Again, one of my purposes is to put the steel guitar right in the middle of the Jazz world.

Hey Jim, I'm so glad you're doing this, and glad to hear that Dave Easley is picking with you. That will be great to hear. I hope to be able to attend in person; trying to work out scheduling conflicts, etc. What tunes do you guys have lined up, if I might inquire? |

Jim,
The tunes are Invitation, Ceora, Wildflower (Wayne Shorter), Peculiar (John Scofield), I Remember Clifford, Globe Trekker Theme (TV show theme also known as The Lonely Planet Theme), Alan wrote a beautiful Jazz waltz Dialing Out, and three of my tunes The Angle of Incidence (free tune), Refraction (up Jazz waltz), and Swing 'N' Out (a tune to end the CD with a tune that swings hard). Those of you who have my last CD remember I ended it with Aug 'N' Out.
I got a very inspirational and well thought out email from Rick Schmidt. This guy deserves way more respect than he is getting. He is a great player and a very insightful person.
