It looks like a Guild lap steel. Smile

I'd guess it was made by Harmony based on the pickup, but it's awfully hard to tell from the photos. The opening bid is about as high I would pay for such a thing without hearing it played, but I'm sure it will get some bids.

The headstock looks like it might be a Danelectro with "Guild" added. The name "Guild" shows up now and then on off-brand guitars, and this could conceivably be a Guild prototype, but laps were never marketed by Guild (the formerly respected brand now getting Fendered--sorta like Epiphone getting Gibsoned).

Michael,

Do you know if Regal put the name "Guild" on it? If this was made before 1953 (when Guild started) then the name "Guild" could just have a cool sounding name chosen for marketing, like "Zephyr" etc.

Michael,

Right. Made by Regal. Here is an article on Guild laps.
http://letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=17077#17077

I'll send you an email about the Guild lit. The guy who wrote the above article, Hans Moust of www.guitarsgalore.nl, is writing his second book on Guilds, and I'll bet he would like to have it.
