Do the pedals work both necks? Could you post a picture?

Hi Jim, Don't feel bad, I don't know HT post a picture either. Just got my signature picture on the NEW Forum today. Looks like b0b
has gone one better for us again! What a GUY! Back in 1954 I bought a used 6 string, 4 pedal MultiKord and soon after traded it for one with 6 pedals and played it till I got a Fender 400 with 5 pedals a year or so later. Played that till the Crossover in the picture in '68. Went to a D10 w/8 & 5 MSA in '74.....and on & on!
Have a S10 keyless Excel these days w/3 & 5. Weighs 25# set up.
Tuned C6th!

Hi Jim - I have a little literature, but it's not much help other than in tuning it. There is not an extensive setup or "fix-it" guide anywhere, and I've talked to a former Harlin employee (she does have copies of original music, but only sells the stuff - nothing's free).

I have a single-neck 6-string, 4 pedal that's working fine. If you email me what you need to figure out I'll try to dial you in - getting it working should be very simple, and I do have the orginal copedent stuff I can send you. Figure out what's needed and I'll compare it to mine and send you detailed pics if needed.

let me know...

Jim, I had a single six with I believe 4 pedals.The only thing I remember that might help,is the open tuning on the pedal neck was A. I remember it had an E pedal and a C#minor 7th pedal and I can't remember the others. Good luck with the project.

Thanks Jim That is a help. I know that i can lower or raise 2 string,s at a time with it. That is what i am looking for. Whether it be E or A. Then i will tune the other neck to an E. Thank,s Jim==Jim Harper

Jim, I have an old Harlan S-6 and my tuning keys are in the same shape....crumbling old plastic. There's a guy on the forum by the name of Jim Palenscar who can fix the keys up for you. I keep meaning to send him mine to fix, but I've got too much going on.

I guess I misinterpreted what Jim said - I thought it was the key *cover* that was rotting.

There are some resources on the web, I think, and in Dan Erlewine's book on guitar repair regarding repair of rotting keys using a powder/glue blend (I can't recall the exact materials) - I did it a few years ago and had good success.

One caution, though - when old plastics (keys, binding, pickguards, etc.) start to rot, they give off a gas that infects all the other plastic parts (only applicable if the guitar is kept in a case). Anything even remotely showing signs of deterioration should be replaced or repaired/sealed as soon as possible.

With tuning keys, after repairing a few, I found it far better to just replace the buttons with matching vintage-style ones. If one is bad I just replace them all. Much safer for all the other plastic.

Stewart McDonald sells replacement tuner key buttons. Their web site also provides instructions for installing them.
