I have no information at all about Gebs lap steels. I went to eBay and checked out your auction, but the shape and design of this particular lap steel doesn't look familiar at all.

Please let us all know when you receive it how you like it and how it sounds. That's a great price no matter what!

I figured I'd risk $50. It looks like SOMEBODY has played it alot based on the condition of the paint on the pickup.

I think guitars painted black sound better.

that pickup looks a bit rusty, but if you can fix the tuners and it gets a reasonable tone, that'd be a huge bargan. It's cheaper than an artisan!

It kind of reminds me of the old Magnatone keyless laps...
I thought GEBS made cases?
Or is it GIEB?

Maybe GEBS is the tuning

Looks like a Magnatone product to me too.

I have run across the name before- in the UK. On capos, if I remember correctly. Maybe one of our crumpets and tea team can ID it.

Hehe. I lived in Liverpool for 2 months, not long but long enough. If you asked most of my friends there what kinda tea they were drinking, they'd have looked at you funny and said either "brewed", or "hot".

Another vote for Magnatone offshoot. Good deal, looks restorable.

A friend of mine inherited one of these with matching amp. Based on the pickup and some of the details, my guess is a Valco offshoot, probably pre-war. The pickup looks a lot like the one Supro/Valco used before they went to the string through.
The amp had a type 83 (mercury vapor filled) rectifier tube!
There must have been a dealer in either eastern Washington or western Montana, because the 3 I've seen have been from this area. They have been gray instead of yellow, but all had that pickup and that distinctive body shape.
