Hi,

I have been recommended a Fishman Rare Earth humbucking soundhole pickup for my acoustic Oahu lap slide. I have my eyes on one on eBay, but the seller does not seem so sure whether it is a humbucker or a single coil. The item description (which mentions humbucker) seems cut and pasted from somewhere else, and when I e-mailed the seller to double-check, he only said that the list price he paid indicated that it was a humbucker, and that it was marked with the code "HB" in the store.

Could any of you Rare Earth owners out there possily please have a look and let me know what it looks like to you? That would be great! Here is the pickup:

Many thanks!

Fred

You can barely see the tiny black toggle switch that is found on the humbucker but not on the single coil, I think. (You might want to confirm that by looking at the Fishman web page). The purpose of the switch is a treble roll-off.

You want the humbucker version only. The single coil has unacceptable 60 cycle hum - at least in my experience.

I had the humbucker version in a Goldtone Weissenborn, and it sounded great. I have also heard that the single coil version hums a lot.

I have the humbuker in a 12 string Fender Villager set up for bottleneck. I like it a lot.
