it finally happened. Ive been asked to audition for a new swing band forming.
this will be my first audition as a steel player!
the 'boss' wants to play newer swing, like Cmdr. Cody and Asleep at the Wheel.

(Ive been listening to older swing,ie: Spade Cooley).
I listened to the songs they want to play.

Cmdr Cody is fast.
I did my homework. practiced the two string slants using all the string pairs
(Thanks Denny T for the C6 slant chart).

I dont have any licks down since Ive been playing my resonator in open G for months now.

I cant resist playing swing in C6. so I will go to the audition.
BTW, this will be a casual band, he said, no pressure and some gigs.

so any tips for me?

Jeez--hasn't even played the gig yet and he's already passing the tip bucket.

Have fun. You could probably bring some older material into it, if he's going with the newer stuff not by preference but by lack of exposure to the originals. Hey, that's what AATW & CC were doing--resurrecting great stuff that younger folks weren't familiar with.
