If someone had a classical version of "A Way To Survive", I guess that would be my favorite steel recording!

"Steel Guitar Jazz", Buddie Emmons, 1963. A landmark jazz steel album that has yet to be surpassed!

Yeah, I like it!

Earlier today I was listening to recordings of some guy named Buddy Emmons playing the Pachebel Canon in D and also the Bach Bourée.

Next I put on the Susan Alcorn CD "Uma" (purchased from the Steel Guitar Forum Catalog in fact) which includes a Thelonius Monk Medley and some very cool playing. This CD is primarily Solo Pedal Steel but does include some Trombone and Bells accompanyment.
I was listening to these tracks and I got to thinking about what other interesting pieces of music had been recorded outside the genres of music that I choose to listen to or am subjected to in public places.

Michael that is a great list! After I find employment again I will probably try and track down a few of those recordings.

Their are a few tracks Winnie Winston's Steel Wool LP that I never tire of hearing and still love.

Michael Lee,

Hello, and thanks for mentioning those cuts, and I know you could have listed many more. We won't even mention those weird Japanese steel albums where they do Latin themes, etc.

Ray Qualls, you got me laughing!

Bobbe Seymour's Rythmatic takes the steel into blues, ambient, Latin - even reggae!!

Our instrument is limitless - it's just the mind that prevents us from applying it to different genres.
