Forty years ago I was building my own steel guitars because I couldn't afford to buy one and I had no-one to refer to.

I was living in Birmingham, England, and steel guitars were about as common as hair on a turnip. I had no idea how they were tuned, and no-one to turn to. For decades I played in open E or open G.

Now, because of the Forum, I can communicate with steel guitarists the world over. And, you know, they're a great group of guys. No matter how naive and out-of-touch you are, via the Forum you'll get advice on any subject any time. Steel guitarists don't get all high and mighty about their talents, they're very open, and they all have a sense of humour. They can have earned their living their whole lives playing professionally, but are not too haughty to advise the beginner.

The mixture of professionals, and of amateurs who have no axe to grind, and play just for the love of it, is what makes this Forum work so well.

I log onto the Forum at least once a day, and I don't worry about what I say, because steel guitarists have heard it all before and don't get upset.

But without Bobby Lee's efforts it wouldn't exist.

Yes, indeed; b0b has provided an invaluable service for all of us still trying to crack this pedal steel code. The Forum has also given us the opportunity to gather information given at no cost by contributors such as Bengt Erlandsen, Ricky Davis, Graham, Jeff Lampert, , mickd, John Steele, and others whom I’ve not mentioned. THANKS, all contributors. steve t

I very mich agree. Bobby has provided us all a forum where we can seek information and help others also. Because of this forum I now play the exact rig that searched for years for and I get the sound that was in my head. People like Paul Franklin, Buddy Emmons, Ricky Davis and others have been a tremendous help to me and have made me a much better player than I would have been without this forum.

Alan , thanks for posting this topic , you are right
amen brother.
Brendan has a timely reminder to us to make donations if and when possible to bOb's great forum to help out. I've sold a few extras laying around the house on the forum for a donation to the forum and it felt pretty good.
When I have made purchases from the forum store of great music or instruction, the service , packing and turnaround time on the CD's , instructional material from Bobby Lee has been top notch

An easy way to make a donation is to do like I did the other day. When I ordered 2 sets of strings I put an extra $5.00 on paypal with my payment, just put in the note "Donation".

Bob is a GREAT friend to steelers,I can remember years ago there was almost NO way to get any imformation on our instrument,I had no idea of the vendors such as Scottys,Frencheys,Bobbe's and all the others across the country, until Russ's mag, steel guitar world mag[sure miss that one]Then Bob took it to the next level so we could instantly communicate with each other worldwide.I sometimes give Bob a hard time about the banjo,I hope he knows this is just in fun,and that I do appreciate what he has done for the steel guitar.Bama Charlie.

Bobby Lee is a Hero to all of us. What he did getting this Steel Guitar Forum organized to bring all of us Steel Players together, is absolutely AWESOME! There is nothing quite like it.Thanks Bobby,(b0b).

I lived in Santa Rosa,Calif. during the 60's teaching and playing. I remember playing some of the Wes MaGee shows and with the Bill Pence Group.

Now , Bobby lives in Cloverdale, a nice small town, about 35 miles north of Santa Rosa.

I regret that I didn't get to meet Bobby as he came in after I left for Michigan...al
