Hi I am also new to the forum and wanted to say hey and tell you a little anout myself for those who don't know.
My spelling sucks so hang with me!
I started playing in my Dads hillbilly band back in 1968. I watched him and my uncle change chords and started playing guitar then. about over the next 2 to 3 years I started playing lead guitar, Lap steel (6 string), mandelin, Bass guitar, and some drums. After my dad passed at 49 in 1972 I was 16 I kept playing with my Uncle Tom Biggers in the band until I was old enough to start playing in clubs without an adult member of the family in the band. I had several bands around the Wichita Kansas area over the next few years until 1987 when I semi retired and moved to Texas-DFW area. I met a singer 2 years later in Dallas his name was Mike Guinn man could this guy belt out the songs and played around Dallas for a year or so. After that I just picked at home. Last year I decieded I was going to buy a pedal steel and lay down some tracks on a CD I was making. I got hooked. I love the instrument. I play it 2 to 3 hours most every day. I am getting kinda salty on it if I must say so myself. Recording yourself is a sure fire way of corecting all of those mistakes we make. The funny thing about a steel, the better you get, the better you need to get!I have been picking up different licks from anyone that will help. I just picked up a lick from Shane Fame on the old song Pass Me By.
I have gone to some Jams around Dallas one is DD's Corner on Maple in Dallas and Jamed with Carter Holcums Band. Man what a heck of a lead guitar picker this guy is. Plays Merle Travis style and is a true PROFESSIONAL and great guy in every way.
He has helped me a lot with instilling confidence and determinaion in me.
Oh well enough about me.
Thanks for listening and hope to meet every single one of you guys over the next few years.
