Tonight I was heading to my garage when I heard the faint sounds of a steel guitar somewhere close. I started walking in the direction of the sound and found myself standing across the street from my home. I saw an open door to a large shop where the sound was coming from and yelled " Who is playing steel" a few seconds later I was greeted by a man with a big smile, who said "I was", I introduced myself and he said his name was Chuck Back and he invited me in to his shop. He is the builder of the Desert Rose steel guitars I have been hearing about. I got to see how they look and are built and he played some riffs while adjusting the new guitar he was finishing up for a customer and he is a player. He was playing through a Peavey 112 and what tone he has. Chuck is a real cat and I must be lucky to have him for my neighbor. Bill Bailey

What a tiny world. That's a great story. Wish I lived next door to Gene Fields. Now that would be a great neighbor (not that Chuck is any less a great neighbor to have). That actually is a great conversation starter. "Who would you like to live next to?" Because it might not necessarily be that person you'd "like to have dinner with." See, if Gene was my neigbor, I KNOW I could wear im down and persuade him to build an 8-string nonpedal section into the pad of my S10.

I have invited Chuck to bring his Desert Rose Guitar and set in with our band this Friday at the Eagles here in Kingman and he has graciously accepted. We start at 7:00 PM, it is open to the public if you want to drop in and say hi.

I met and chatted with Chuck in St. Louis..........a really nice guy with a great product. If I was in the market for a modern steel guitar, Desert Rose would be at the top of my list. I think it's an asset if you're buying a new steel to actually get along with the maker and like him as a person. After all, you are going to need communication after the sale. Chuck seemed to me to be the type of guy who would be very supportive with customer service.

What a nice suprise to see the name Bill Bailey on the Forum this morning. I met and talked with you for a few minutes when you played with Charlie Conners at the Mohave Crossing grand opening. Hope to meet Chuck someday. Gary

Bill, Would that happen to have been A D-10 blue guitar? If so that was probaly the new one that I have ordered from Chuck. I had the pleasure of hearing Chuck at the Lexington, Ky. show A couple of years ago,not only can he play, he can also sing.

J.W,
The guitar Chuck was testing was a Red S-10 with George L pickup 3 floor pedals and 5 knee levers. Awesome sound from that Peavey 112 amp.
