That's a wonderful sound, Howard! And played perfectly. I'm sure that's how Django would sound if he played steel!

Nicely done, How...er...Derango. Loved the transition from intro to takeoff, and man, that tune is contagious. Them gypsies know how to throw a dang party! I hope to hear more.

Was that your minor/major tuning? And which of that gallery of fine instruments did you play?

Merveilleux, mon ami ! I like the lick that almost sounds like Tico Tico. You nailed the Manouche tone, Howard.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. This is very exciting and new to me. It gives me the interest and incentive to forge ahead. At least ya'll know that I can hold a bar after these several years.

Rickney, I don't know where you come up with these photos, but I alsways get a laugh out of them and they're apropos.

Jon...nice hat

Don, I'm afraid to ask where?

I used my Benoit Koa six string as it has a bright, punchy sound that I thought would suit the music.

I'm using the straight standard G bluegrass tuning

L - H........G B D G B D

I had to re learn and re think just about everything I was used to. When I first took the interest, sat down, and tried to play this, it sounded like Foggy Mountain Dark Eyes. I had to listen to A LOT of Sol Hoopii and Roy Smeck to try to emulate their style & tecnique of playing. That's the only way to approach (IMO) Gypsy Jazz without the American accent.

I use a lot of stacatto and muting. I use very sparingly,... vibrato, glissando, banjo rollo, hammer onno, and pull offo....

I want to thank Gerald Ross for taking the time and interest in helping me (a great deal) with this endeavor.

Howie,
YOU ROCK!
I'm still working on a new arrangement of "Taps" on my converted dulcimer. It's tuned to H low to high, H H H octave.
I'm not sure what bar this is, but I'm drinkin' to you.
Happy New Year!

Howard,

What a great job. Do you have Dark Eyes tabbed and would you care to pass it along?
