Sure looks like John Hughey to me. Maybe my vision is going?

Who says real country music is dead? It was never better than this, and maybe never will be. Don't you love the way Vince and Patti turned and watched John play his ride.

Hughey and the others are great of course. Gill and Loveless have had a tight musical relationship for many years. If I recall correctly, quite early on in his career, she sang the harmony part on his huge hit, "When I Call Your Name". She has the perfect soulful, poignant, mountian twang voice and together, they sound like one person singing. Patti has also sung duets with George Jones ("You Don't Seem To Miss Me"). Even though she is a Nashville mainstay, and has made many albums and hit singles, she doens't get the attention she deserves. On the other hand, she's still in the spotlight after around 20 years and has watched a lot of up-and-comers come and go, so there are people really appreciating her for the talent she has.

Right Jeff! Patty Loveless is so under-appreciated, sometimes I just can't believe it.

I remember seein' that video the year I started playin' steel and it was also the year before I met John Hughey. Vince sang harmony on Patty's song "Timber, I'm Fallin' In Love" and then she sang the harmony on "When I Call Your Name". I think Vince and Patty should record an album full of duets and a lot of steel. When you've got Vince and Patty singin' together and a steel guitar in the background, you've got a great song. Also, in the video, John was playing an Emmons. This was before he switched to Zumsteel. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10-aka "Redgold Beauty"

Patty has always been a favorite of mine. "If My Heart Had Windows" is my favorite. AND, she's easy on the eyes.

Patty's a favorite of mine too. She's an amazing singer and I love every song she's recorded so far. Her records feature some great steel too. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10-aka "Redgold Beauty"

You can always tell the true pros, can't you?

Check out the Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn duo on "Nothing Cold as Ashes." They do the same thing for John, and he gets his own key light as well. Great pro stuff!

As for Patty Loveless, well, she sure could make a monkey out of me.

One of the great things about Vince is his obvious love for steel guitar. See how he turns and watches John's entire ride. Not a lot of singers do that.

Nothing any better than the touch of a masters hand on the steel. So smooth.

Vince got my appreciation the year he won Instrumentalist of the Year. It was the year Conway died and JH was now working with VG. He insisted on bringing John out into the limelight and share the award with him. John was a bit reluctant at first but finally went on stage for the accolades.

I recall another interview sometime later when Vince said something about being tired: "I just want to go home and listen to John play!"

I have a few GOO cuts where they were on the Opry and Vince always paid John a great ammount of recognition and respect.

He was on Imus In The Morning turseday of this week but someone else was playing steel and it was surely no John Hughey!

Regards, Paul

well patty has a country voice it sounds as good as it gets. vence always sounded good and when he sings with a woman its really good because of his high pitched voice. i have searched my mind and i found one thing wrong with patty, she isnt waring my ring. oh no look out that could be another top 10 song for vience. just my oppinion. thanks doc

This should be a must see..for all those who say over 50 doesn't fit a certain image. John could play on any bandstand, anywhere, with anyone. And i think he's slight;y over 50!
