Slim's been playing steel for Mark for awhile now and I remember, in two of Mark's videos, Slim was playing a Mullen. He now plays an Excel. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10-aka "Redgold Beauty"

Slim is a very friendly guy. Unless they're scurrying around, trying to get off stage in a hurry, he'll take the time to chat with you after the performance.

If things haven't changed in Mark's sound set up, don't expect to hear Slim much. But, you will hear plenty bass & drums.

Your actually the second person to tell me that about the sound mix. This should be interesting. I have been going to that ride for 10 years and usually the act is something like J.D. Simo, Led Zepplin Tribute band, or last year was 3 Dog Night. In years past, its always been a rock or blues show at this ride. I usually skip the show for some riding on the island or a nice cocktail on the beach. I fully understand that bikers like country music, but in all the rides I have been on, this is probably the first major country band I have seen besides Willie Nelson. I suspect that since this ride is mostly older riders, Mark will be well accepted. I could be the only guy there listening specifically for Slim's licks...HA......James

Be sure to get a look at Slim's new Excel U-12. I've only seen pictures, but from what I could see, it's a beauty.

I saw Mark Chesnutt in Dothan, Al. 2 weeks ago.
Before he went on, I stepped outside to "escape" the volume and mix of the opening act. Slim was standing by the bus, and I went over and talked for about ten minutes. He is very personable, and was eager to talk about his new Excel. Mark's sound man was fighting the size of the club. However, except for the decibel level, everything was exceptional. I had no problem hearing Slim. He is an excellent player.

James,
Are you inquiring about the steel player that lives outside of Corpus Christi? If so, I know him...haven't seen him in about a year though.

James - Are you talking about Bike Fest at South Padre Island? The Zepplin tribute band is called Let's Zepplin.

Blue Man Group will be down here next week.
Anybody know who is playing steel with them?
