I don't know if this should go here or Extended Family. I have only heard of him, but imagine that some guys here know him.

I sure did know Bob when I lived in Lubbock in the early 70's I was just asking Fred did he know him.... He was a good player and built a good steel guitar.. the Sahara. In the year or so that I lived in LBB.. we had a number of jam sessions with Bob.. My Condolences to his family.. |

Hey Charlie, Joe; yes I knew the skinny one very well. I bought one of his first Sahara guitars, a S11 and he put a tuning on it that I use part of today. He was a great EMaj and E6 advocate. Sorry to hear of his passing and my condolences to this fine family. Bob made sure his family came first in his lifestyle and was a fine gentleman. Charlie thanks for the post and info.

the first time I heard Bob play was in post Tx. in the 70,s. I followed him home back to Shallowwater outside of Lubbock at 3 in the morning just to get some instructional material he had for sale. I still remember he was missing the fingers on his left hand and I wondered how he managed to have such great control of the bar. I never owned one of his steels but I understand they were good guitars. He was a very nice person always willing to help anyone that needed it. RIP Bob. Shady |

Such sad news. I used to trade with Bob Stufflebeme when I lived in Lubbock, back in the early 70's. He sold all kind of "mail order" instruments. From Ovation Guitars to Fender Amps, to His fine hand made "Sahara" Steel guitars. He made a "left hander" for L.K. Chance, one of only two, or three Truley left handed steel players I ever saw. He built at least one guitar for Steel Guitar Icon, Lloyd Maines. |
