Hi Steve--I am having a problem with a song you recorded and maybe you can help me. Josh Turner's YOUR MAN--how do I do the lick after the words "Baby, we ain't got no place to go" (low octive notes). I met you at Chautauqua, New York about three years ago. Thanks for your help. Joe |

Hey Joe, I'm not in front of my steel, but I think the part you're talking about can be played on strings 8,7,&6 on frets 9,8,7 (sliding from the V chord to the IV chord). Try that and see if it works.

I started on fret 11 and picked strings 9 and 8...let them ring and slide down to fret 10 and picked strings 7 and 6 and slide down to fret 9...I think.Thank you Buddy Emmons!

YES! I recall Buddy demonstrating that pattern at Gerry Hogan's steel event in the UK about twenty years ago - I adopted it instantly!
Credit to you, Steve - it's tailor-made for that tune, and it sounded great.

Hey Steve, I attended the Opry on Tuesday the 5th of Sept. Would that have been you on steel with John Conlee? If so you did a great job for sure. Also aside from Tommy White with the house band, who were the other steelers on stage that night. Terri Clark's player, Jeff Bates, etc.....JH in Va.

James,I've never written any tab...I think I heard that someone is selling tab for"Your Man"...not sure who it is...the intro starts on string 8,second fret...then slide into the second fret on string 6...then pick string 5(second fret again)and mash the A pedal...then pick string 4(second fret)...then go up to fret 9 and pick string 5...mash the A pedal and then pick string 4...that will get you to the 4 chord...I can't remember what happened after that...but it may have occurred at the seventh fret...Steve...sorry about the long post...like they used to say in south Georgia-I could show you quicker than I can tell you...

Got to say it's a pretty cool forum where you can ask about a lick on a #1 chart record and get an answer not only from the guy that played it, but he credits where the basis of it came from. Nice one, Steve ... |

Joe,
Here is a link for a source of the tab for "Your Man". I bought it a while ago and it's very good! Only $10 and worth every cent.

Check it out and good luck,
Lynn
PS: I agree...this forum is the best!!! |
