My steel and all of the equipment that goes with it, sits in a small alcove just off the living room. I rent this place, and when I saw it the first thing I looked for was a place to set up my steel.

It's a perfect place, small yet convenient, everything is within an arms reach, and it's out of the way.

I have seen pictures on this forum where some of you have massive amounts of equipment, and as creatures of habit, it's set up to your specifications.

So, where does your steel sit in your home ? or shop, or garage, or ?

Mine sits in our bedroom, and yeah, my wife gripes about nearly every day. I guess I could move it to the living room and give her something to hollar about.

One to the left, and one to the right, of the computer in my studio/den. I can sit on my rolling equipment box (The Home Depot version of a Pac-a-Seat, with wheels and handle - $39) and do emails, type posts, and play either guitar.

Thanks for the Home Depot tip, Jim.
Since I'm in a closet, storage space is at a premium.

It has it's own little place in the corner of the upstairs studio. The amps sit across the room. Sonically it's pretty good and I'll often go directly into the board.

When I lived in L.A. I turned the case on end and used it for a TV stand in the bedroom. That's how scarce (decent) gigs were there ...

Mark,
We have an old 8'X28' semi trailer sitting on a foundation we converted into a music studio. When not working my steel is set up in there across from the sound equipment, and with in reach of the recording gear [if I stand up and reach]! lol..

I keep my Steel right next to the computer, just in case my buddy Mark Edwards comes into the Original Steel Guitar Chatoroom when I'm there and has a cool steel lick I can steal.

I started out with a large walk-in closet just off the living room.
I soon outgrew this area and wound up putting a loft over the garage. I really like it.
My wife used to walk over and turn down my amp(s)while I was playing and the loft eliminated the cost of a divorce!

Had mine in the basement for years. Lots of room but very depressing atmosphere. Moved it up to my fairly large dining room area so I have lots of daylight, mini studio, TV, kitchen (food!) and computer all in one area.

A loft over the garage? That would be awesome!

My steel, guitars and amps all sit on the stage in a 36 x 48 building 200 ft behind my house where we practice and perform our once a month gospel opry. I have all my instruments my sound equipment, etc. where I can practice whenever and as loud as I want to. Pretty cool set up I think

My steel sits in my bedroom a little ways past my bed and it's right beside my cd player so I can turn on a cd and play along. My Emmons steel always sat up against the wall where the cd player is now, but because the GFI is so beautiful, it faces my computer chair so I can see the front of the GFI. I am blessed to have an 800 sq. ft. recording studio attached to my house where my stuff is set up. I can go out there anytime and play as loud as I want and no one in the house (or outside) can hear me. We have double walls and ceilings with drywall, sound board, and insulation. Click on the link in my signature for pics. In some of them you can see my "steel corner".

I use a bedroom I added on for my oldest, after he left for the USMC, and life beyond (now in Westbranch MI). It's a nice quite space to practice/compose... and keeps the kids from moving back in

Right now I have two setup next to the computer but soon I'll have room for all three setup in a 16 x 18 room just for music. Oh and no neighbors to say turn in down.

I live in a 2-bedroom 14’x65’ box, called a Mobil~Home. Since there are only myself and my wife, I've used the extra bedroom for my Music~Room, Work~Shop, Re~loading-Bench and any other activity or project since day-one, (July 16, 1991) except for spray~painting, which I must do outside on suitable days! One of these days I'm going to soundproof it, so that I can actually use it for practicing and recording¡
