Amazon. Because it's a hard find, I put it on my wish list and then periodically checked to see if it was available. Snagged it about 6 months ago new for $9.

David, I sent you an email yesterday with a tasty little attachment. Just wondering if it got through. My last email to the U.K. didn't get there either, for some reason.

I love title of this record but if they changed it to "How to Play the Steel Guitar Country Style" it would still be right on. The steel guitar lesson of a life time for 7 bucks. There's still some good bargains out there!! Thanks Elisabeth

Neither did I at walmart.com. Maybe Canadian 'marts are better stocked.

You do get this commentary:
Quote:
Prejudice ran high but the quality of Pride's music, particularly the atmospheric live album from Panther Hall, meant that he was accepted by the redneck community. --Copyright Muze UK Ltd. 1989 - 2005

Walmart.ca returns zero results for Charley Pride.

I think it's a fluke kind of thing. It'll just show up in the country bins if you just browse from time to time. I know several people who have found it there. Maybe word is out on it, and Walmart is secretly supplying Amazon!

I think I know your problem, guys. I found the CD on Amazon.ca, but it's called Charlie Pride In Person with sub-title "Recorded Live - Panther Hall, Forth Worth Texas"

And Charley is the correct spelling of his first name -- that stumped me for about 10 minutes

My wife bought it for me a couple of years ago on CD. I was spellbound for days. The finest live steel recording I have heard
to date. In St. Louis, that year, I had Lloyd
to autograph it. He wrote, "A great memory"
on the cover. What a nice guy, too.

Lloyd Green remains as my inspiration
to start playing. A scratchy 45 record of
San Antonio Rose with "Atlantis" on the
B side.

What an ignorant thing to say!

"Panther Hall" may be especially significant for steelers, but the truth is that he had a nice personality, sang good country music, and was accepted as a star years before the "Panther Hall" album was released.

Donny, Perhaps the writer merely meant (with the reference to "atmospheric") to say that the enthusiastic audience reaction on the album SHOWS his acceptance. Which it certainly does.
Could have done without the "redneck" reference, though. "Country music community" would have been much better.

I have had that particular album for years. It is a "Classic Live Country Performance" of which Lloyd Green was at his best, as was Charley Pride.
I listen to it quite often.
The tune "Shutters and Boards" on this album was written by a Great American Combat Soldier.
Some of you may be interested in knowing who I am referring to........click on the link. http://www.audiemurphy.com/biograph.htm
