| You need to check into Band In A Box (BIAB). I know of nothing else that compares to it. PG Music, the producer, also makes a program called Power Tracks Pro Audio that is used by quite a few for recording purposes. |

| What Erv said, I use both Band in a Box and PowerTracks. There's some good tutorials on their website that'll show you how to do things with it. Wes,
I use a Boss DR-670 drum machine. It plays drum and bass. The sonic quality is top notch and can be used for performance if you desire. You can program all the standards. It has Acoustic Upright Bass sounds, finger, bass, etc. It comes with canned rhythms that may or may not suit some of your needs. You can program songs and play chains of songs. Repeats.
I use it to practice scales, program songs, you name it. The nice thing about it is that it can be controlled by a foot switch. Has midi ports headphone ports mono and stereo out, and you can adjust that tempo. I do not play anything with out it, unless I am playing along with song.
I highly recommend it.

| For gig songs, I transcribe the bass and rhythm instrument and then record it with a 4 track against a click track (which I take out at mix down). You can use the play-alongs to teach with besides practice. For some reason, this works better for me than just playing along with the record. |
