I need some information on a 6 String Lap Steel My Great neice 7 years old is getting for Christmas.I need to know the Tuning and the Gauges of the Strings. It is brand new from Musicians Music on E-Bay I beleave out of Kentuckey. There is no Tuning or Instructions on the String gauges.I have given her a new bar and new picks and a Cromatic Tuner that I had extra. I'm trying to help her in any way I can to keep her interested in playing Steel Guitar.Any Info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Sam White

Order a set of C6 Jagwire strings from this forum (click "strings" on top of this page) and tune it to C6,- that's the tuning that has the most instructional material available, so it's the most practical solution (and probably also the most common tuning).

Another suggestion for the little "Niece learning the steel"... is: Buy her the Cindy Cashdollar (1 & 2) DVD's or VHS tapes. Both provide valuable visual & audio info along with inspiration for the little gal eager to learn. I've got 'em and they are great! Just my (semi-humble) opinion dan

Samuel,
I'm near RI on the MA border if you decide to get her lessons. If she's gets the bug.
