Here's an old recording from the bandstand at an Eagle's Hall gathering........
Keith Holter is the outstanding lead guitarist; Willy Williams, vocal, and Dianah Dodge on drums. There's a lot of rough edges in the delivery here however, it was done spur of the moment without rehersal or anything like that.
You might find it entertaining.......at least. http://www.jerrybyrdfanclub.com/AboutRay.htm

Yeah well it nor Keith Holter are dead as of 2006. YMMV.

Keith's a giant, as well as being an inductee of a Western Swing Hall of Fame in at least one jurisdiction.

Keith Holter, Bill O'Connor and a great pedal steel player were at Jubitz a couple of weeks ago playing their asses off. It's a Sin, Satin Doll, and a couple other standards were the fare, and they tell me they gig regularly. I wish I remembered the Pedal Steel Player's name. Maybe Bill can chime in here. He was great.

Keith's arthritis, he claims slows him down considerably, but playing that red Fender, maybe it just allowed some of us "young'ns" to see his fingers.

Great to see these more seasoned players getting out and playing the REAL THING.

Maybe they just ignore all the reasons not to.. Including physical pain in Keiths part.

I know I do.

Off to a couple gigs.

You know I'm not sure.

I'm never off on the weekends, so I don't get out.

I can contact Bill O'Connor and see if Keiths band is playing anywhere around longview.

I'm doing a lot of "bar gigs" where "normal CW "oldies" are the usual fare, filling in in a great band called Kindling at the Flying M in a couple weeks, Older CW, etc. Nothing "Swing".

I have known several real good "Django" era hot jazz/swing bands, but I've lost track of the guys, and Don't know where a lot of them went. I'm thinking they might have "played for the love of playing"ed themselves into oblivion. "Everything's Jake" and "Wholly Cats" are two that come to mind.

I'll check as I have time, and see if I have Bill O'Connor's email addy.

The steel player with Keith Holter is Dean Rankin. The group is "Longhorn" from Longview, WA. Drummer is Dave Holter, fiddles were compliments of Kevin Healey and James Mason.

BTW, I think Keith is playing his Bigsby on the posted 1978 clip, as if you couldn't tell...man what tone.

There will be a lot of Western Swing at the Eagles Club in Auburn, WA this weekend....Thursday thru Sunday. It is the Hall of Fame weekend for the Seattle chapter of the Western Swing Society. Longhorn kicks everything off on Friday at 1:30 PM. There will be bands there from the Oklahoma and Sacramento chapters as well. Longhorn will be backing Dayna Wills on Sat. and Sun., with yours truly on bass.

It will be a great weekend.

Hey, Kenny. I am as sure as you are that Keith will not mind you posting these great pics.

He will be playing this guitar in Auburn this weekend. He has hired an armored truck service to keep an eye on it for him.

I have played this axe hundreds of times over the last 40 or so years, and it just keeps getting better and better.

Keep on swinging.

I didn't see this until last nite, and If I wasn't playing a two gig day and eve, I'd head up there.

My apologies for not recognizing DEAN RANKIN as the Pedal Steel Player. I don't think I've seen him for 15 years, and my eyes aren't what they used to be. Dean's one of the finest and longest running working steel players in the area. Through health problems, lessening of venues, and other things that have tended to unravel the music scene, he like Keith before us has always been working at his craft. They still are.

Here's the Link to the Seattle Western Swing Society and I noticed that most of the members of the Longview Longhorns are IN their Hall of Fame.

Rightfully so.

Like I said, it'd be WELL worth catching these guys plying their crafts as they have so tirelessly through all these years.

Now if I could only get Bill's kid to give me some Telecaster Lessons..
