In or about December of 1973 thru January of 1974 Leon McAulliffe got together with many of the, "Original Texas Playboys." They made a recording of a double vynl album called,"For the Last Time." Bob Wills was present for much of the recording but in the course of events had the stroke that resulted in his death a few months later.
This is the best steel guitar playing I ever heard. While Leon doesn't do alot of solo work, he pretty much carries the band throughout the festivities with that Fender Quad of his.
Does anybody know if and/or where this recording might be available today? |

That session is also now available as part of the 13CD-1DVD Bear Family set of Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys "Faded Love 1947-1973." It includes the MGM recordings on through that "Last Time' session. One of the CDs is the complete 1971 previously unissued session at the home of Merle Haggard with Leon McAuliffe also on steel.
