My fiddle player from here in the UK is currently on 2 month trans-USA vacation, and is expecting to be in Tennessee next week visiting Memphis & Nashville. Appreciate any recommendations on venues he could check out to catch live music, obviously preferably with steel.

Allan,

There is a Saturday night country music show at the Strand Theater in Millington, just 10 or 12 miles north of the Memphis city limit on US 51. Coming from Memphis, turn right on "C" street then left at the end of the block. They have a good steel player, although most of the songs are vocals. Just local talent, but surprisingly good.

If steel player Skip Cole happens to see this thread, he can give you some details.
