While visiting family last week in New Hampshire, I happened to catch a replay of an old 1976 T.V. program called "Nashville on the Road" which was on R.F.D. T.V. Jim Ed Brown, Jerry Clower, and Billy Walker were featured guests. The young steel player on the show was playing what appeared to be a "natural birdsye" Sho-Bud. He was playing some nice tasteful back-up and breaks, and had great tone! Anyone know who it might have been??
The Electric guitar player was very good as well - played a big blonde hollow body - another fine young player whom I didn't regognize? |

"blond hollow body".........That was probably "Spider" Wilson on electric guitar at that time. He played an Epiphone which looked like a 335 with a natural finish....JH in Va.

Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

My guess would be "Hank Cowin"as he played with Jim Edd for a long time, and while Jim Edd was In Gulfport Miss doing "Nashville on the Road",Hank retired while down here, and still lives here, mater of fact,he will be the Guest star at the Gulfport Steel Jam on Aug. 5th,,,I talked to Hank back in June at the Steel Jam,and he said he just desided to give it up for a while,,but now he's come out of retirement, and is gonna show us how the steel should be played lol...but I did see a Nashville on the road show,on R F D,and it wasn't Hank Cowin Playing, probly after Hank retired......

I saw that show. It was Johnny Cox. I don't recall ever seeing Hank C. play anything but an Emmons on that show. So, going by the younger age of the player, and it being the blonde Sho~Bud I'm sure it was Johnny. |
