You will have to excuse my ignorance, but who are 'The New Hinsons"?....
A fellow forumite sent me a Mp3 of this song (The Oasis), and I've never been the same since !
I can't remember when last I was blown away like this ! The steel playing is absolute great !...
my kind of sound, and playing (Hughey and Pete Drake combined). This style of playing just floors me; the emotion that it conveys is absolutely fitting for this song.....dang ! let me get
out of here...got to listen to it again.
Great vocals, great arrangement,great recording.
For all you young steel players who are not sure of when, and what, to play in a song;
get your hands on a copy of this album and listen to how it should be done.
Great job guys !

I've actually been playing that song on our show and it's a good one. Scott Sanders did the steel work. Hi might sound like John a little, but Pete Drake??? not sure about that. Scott is a fine player. I'm lucky enough to have a past member of the Hinson's in my group and he sounds real similar to Bo Hinson (lead vocal on that song). Add the harmonies and it's a show stopper. |

You need to get the CD. Its filled with super steel picking by Scott. Not many sessions made by the New and the old Hinsons without Steves Steel. Kenny Hinson on the older recordings was the best country singer I have ever heard. Kenny passed away a few years back and Bo, Ronnie Hinson' son is carrying on the tradition and I might add VERY WELL |

I saw the old Hinsons live one time when they didn't even have a keyboard player. Scott was on steel, and Kenny played lead guitar, there was a bass player, and drummer, and thats all the music they needed. It was great, although I love good piano playing too.

Nic,
If you go to: http://www.officialoriginalhinsons.homestead.com/ you can find a lot of the history of the Hinsons there. And, if you click on "Photo One" link there, then go to the second pic posted there, you'll see a very young me in the background playing my white Fender Mustang. I use to play for them when they first started out here in California. Why I quit playing for them I'll never know! I was young! But there you can learn a lot of their history! Ronny was the writer of "The Lighthouse". Elvis preformed it on one of his last television programs.

The New Hinsons also have a live cd/dvd they recorded a few years back with Scotty, Kelly Back, Dirk Johnson and other good players on it. If you like country gospel, you'll like the New Hinsons!

Hey John, I don't think there is any relation. Tony, what is the title of the live New Hinsons album? Are they still touring and recording. I haven't heard anything by them in a while. The Hinsons were my all time favorite country gospel band.

I have always said the original Hinsons were my alltime favorite group. They had everything they needed. Good singing, good songs and a good band. It has already been said Kenny Hinson was the greatest country singer there ever was. If you never got to see the Hinsons perform with Kenny singing, you missed a blessing. I just wonder how many hit songs they put out over the years. Now the New Hinsons, with Bo, who is Ronnies son, are making a name for themselves. I would bet Ronnie is still doing some writing for the group. As faar as the steel goes, Scott Sanders played live with them and done some recording. The original Hinsons used Sonny Garrish on their projects which ain't bad by a longshot. Sonny Garrish has played on so many gospel albums it is just unbelievable. At any rate, if you are a Hinson you are just a talented singer and musician. |
