What a tragic loss for us all that Rick Nelson died so young. Who else among the 50s teen idols and rock stars exhbited so much growth as they got older. (I think Buddy Holly would have faded from the public eye, but become an important producer, working with major league younger artists.)
I think if Rick Nelson were alive today, he'd be one of our most important artists, a national treasure, up there in a par with Johnny Cash and Willie Neslon (a relative perhaps?)

Buddy wrote good songs and would have continued..INMO the most lasting of the

| I agree that Rick matured amazingly over his career, and he was no lightweight in his teel-idol years. I really don't understand why this hasn't been more recognized. I guess he didn't look tortured enough, and some people may be turned off by the teen-idol image. |

Notice the huge effect Tom Brumley has on the overall sound of the song, and with what - 15 or 16 notes? What great player, and composer (of steel parts).

I think it's pretty cool that Tom Brumley only plays a few notes for the entire length of the tune - and they fit perfectly!

| Well, what the heck, I have an opposing viewpoint. I think Garden Party was some of the most over-hyped and bland music of that era. That said, I am a huge fan of Rick Nelson and Tom Brumley. |
