Its such a pleasure to hear uncommercialized
real music coming from The Sacred Steel Community. This not the style of steel guitar I choose to play, but I can appreciate it greatly because of its purity and divine inspiration. Its got soul like Johnny Paycheck had soul. So much better than the stuff coming out of Nashville. I'm on board. |

I think that's one of the most profound statements I've read in my years on The Steel Guitar Forum.
Sometimes it's not enough to listen to a cd, hear a tune or part of a tune. Meeting the people who play and perform the music will provide a deeper insight, understanding, and appreciation of where the music comes from and what it is all about.

Well Said, Mr. MadHatter!! Tommy and I "experienced" the sacred steel style when visiting Dante Harmon's church in Atlanta. The whole congregation took part in the music. A church leader even handed out tamberines to different folks. Tommy told me later, it was a good thing they didn't hand one to me, because he would have handed it back! (Yes, really!  )
We enjoyed it very much - and have incorporated a Sacred Steel component to our GaSGA community outreach program. We've offered our resources for strings, etc., and Dante and some of the players from the church have played at our Georgia Peach Jam. People continue to ask when they'll be back. They were VERY well received.
In one of Mike Browns's jams in the Peavey room (Dallas show this year), Lonnie Bennett and Dan Tyack played their hearts out on lap steels. It was awesome!!! |

Hey Del, I've been checking out your site. I really like the sacred steel stuff I've heard there. Very bluesy sounding stuff that really reaches down and grabs a person.
