I just talked with Chuck McCalip--super bass player and fiddle builder--one of my friends in Bemidji, MN, and he informed me that Elvin was in pretty good health and was playing some steel guitar again. Elvin underwent a bout with bladder cancer recently, but evidently has overcome the illness and is back to his old self again. He's still living close to Clearbrook, MN, and may be considering building a couple of custom guitars. Good news is he's still kicking and playing some.
