| I can't speak for everyone here but I am getting my rearend kicked by these gas prices. I have talked to other musicians in my area and some flat out won't travel anymore. If I didn't love the instrument and the fun so much I would probably settle down a bit. Thank God I have a good day job. Good Luck to All of You!! |

I concur! I spend nerly $100 a week just on my job doing deliveries around Nashville. I gave up my night job because it was an additional
$200 a week. Gigging too far away has to pay more these days or I can't go. Trouble is it's not paying any more. |

| Whats bad is a lot of my summer gigs were negotiated before the gas prices spiked up (a lot of them over 150 miles). Oh well, it's kinda like the stock market. Nevertheless; if I was in it for our main family income this would be a serious issue. As long as i'm not paying out to play, I'm safe from my wife giving me the evil eye!! |

What do you pay for gas and would you know the equivalent of your currenncy compared to US dollars? Just curious.

| Greetings from the city with the highest gas prices in the country. The only solution that makes any sense to me is to slow down, you'll use less gas, drive down demand and hopefully as the demand lowers so will prices. Give it a shot, try driving the speed limit. |

I read where they found over 17 Trillion barrels of oil around the Alberta area in Canada. And over a Trillion barrels in the Green River area in Colo - found by the Rand Co. ?? The Exxon ceo's getting $400 million pension pkg. Another one got an $80 million bonus. I guess I'm jumping the gun here - they got to eat too. In China, they're paying $1.98, Iran, 35 cents. A yr ago, I saw a new report showing a cab driver in Iraq payin 9 cents and he was complaining about the hike. I guess we're not the only ones getting screwed. I don't know if country music is hot over there or not? It would be cheap driving to the gig.!

As noted in another thread
Gas is 2.90 a gallon,
but the average local band gets paid $5,30 a night per man...
My band gets much more,
but still even in a MUCH lower cost general ecconomy
this daily cost is SKY HIGH for the locals.
In this situation for y'all, unfortunatly at
the same time band gig costs go up,
the cost for the audience to get to the show ALSO goes way up.
And costs for the venue also sky rocket.
Beer delivery, other supplies etc.
The entertainment for them is a cost,
And relatively low on the priority list sadley...
This is the time kid's bands or new acts
get their breaks,
because they work dirt cheap.
And expirenced acts, take or get, fewer gigs,
because of the cost of transport.
Unfortunately there ain't much to do about it
in the short term.
Just understand, it still ain't as bad for you
as many places on the globe...
The cost is the same for a barrel of oil
whether you make $100 a night gigging or $5.30.
In general it just sucks, but that's the facts jack.
What can we do...
Well voting is about the only choice.
And clearly deciding what your priorities are...
And in case you don't realize, I STILL vote in the USA...
(not intended as a biased political comment,
just as the only logical course of action)

I feel like old Joe Stain (somebody who satirically posted this on CNN):
I fill my car with 50 dollars worth of gas. I drive to the store to buy a 6 dollar bag of beef jerky. It takes me 3 dollars to go 14 miles to buy the jerky. I eat it all before I get home so I must go back to the store to buy more jerky for 6 dollars. Again it costs me 3 dollars in gas. I finish the jerky just as I arrive at home only to get an upset stomach from 1/2 pound of dried beef swelling in my stomach. I now have to spend another 3 dollars in gas to buy a 7 dollar bottle of Rolaids. This 1 hour of my life cost me 28 dollars. With the price of gas these days I think its time to give up on beef jerky. Another pleasure gone due to gas prices.

| Relax. The government has already had an inside meeting with the big oil compnaies. here's the story. Research "Flex Vehicles" on the web. Today on the local news it was announced that a new Ethanol processong plant was going to be built in western N.Y. and be functional on a year abd a half. The high gas prices that you see right now are the last giveway by Dick Cheney ( yes thats right Dick Cheney, he runs the White House. Prince George is a mere puppet) to his oil buddies. It has already been decided to let the Arabs eat sand, and they will have to by this time in two years. Brazil runs its country on Ethanol and just announced that they will no longer be importing foreign oil. Yes, they have Flex Vehicles that run TOTALLY on Ethanol. The technology now exists and has existed to make Ethanol out of used orange peels and corn and sell it at a big profit for less than a dollar a gallon. Clean emmisions also. Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the rest of the Islama Facists will be eating sand very soon. This was decided on a national security basis. Watch for a local Ethanol processing plant to be announced in your area VERY soon. | The other day I heard a commentator on the radio, and he had some atrocious profit figures.. He said that Exxon had a net profit last year of 38.1 Billion dollars, in comparison Walmart had an 11.8 Billion dollar net profit.. If this is true, then we are being royally scr**ed... |

Looks like somebody better get in an order for a truckload of cheese here..
Prices were higher in the 70s.
Too many people driving needlessly anyhow.
Maybe the bands will have to put bigger panhandling signs on their tip jars..

The only answer is having some central authority rationing out ALL the resources as they see fit until we realize the dream of a classless society made up of a ruling class and a peasant class...(Ooops, Eric. I think I just cut the ...)
The important thing is that we do not have any black snow in Alaska and there are more trees to hug.
Why would a growing country with an expanding economy ever need more refineries and sources of oil over time??? |

I have a picking buddy that works at a local refinery here in Tyler, Tx. He said according to the paper work he's seen that the refinery makes 2.5 MILLION dollars PROFIT every 24 hours. Now tell me we aren't getting nailed.

| It appears that we'll be using Ethanol as we can't drill anywhere for oil with all the environmentalists going berserk. That much is no doubt coming but the price will not be any cheaper. There are kits you can buy right now that will show how to convert corn into Ethanol for $3.00 a gallon. No doubt the oil companys are putting it to us but according to AAA, we're still driving more for our vacations and just driving more period. We cancelled our trip to The Grand Canyon. That drives up the price more than anything. If we can't produce more oil here and we're driving more, then the prices have to go up. If I thought I had the inside scoop on who's running the White House other than the president, I wouldn't be sitting here messing with this. There's all kinds of conspiracy theories out there if you listen to Coast to Coast B*** S*** radio. I was recording tunes for $25 a tune last year with a minimum of three tunes. This year I'm getting more but this weekend, I'll be driving a 100 mile round trip for one session. I used to think $50 a song was pretty stiff but I've adjusted my thinking now. |

I listen to Michael Savage at www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/ on talk radio, and he has a lot to say about Islama Facists. (he calls them Islamofacists) Yes, ethanol is right around the corner! I am just grateful we hired a former oil man for the job , you know someone who ran his business's well, and knows how to keep the saudis in line?
Oh well at least the gays cant marry, thats whats really important right?
I wonder how much gas we could save by elimniating NASCAR instead of giving it government subsidies? I dont think i could go on living tho if it meant I couldn't watch grown men drive cars around in circles really fast for hours...wow thats exciting stuff!
and dont get me started on those wacky environmentalists, why if they'd just let us drillu p the alaskan wilderness we'd have enough gas for at least another month! stupid hippies! who cares about a bunch of caribou anyway?
