Hey Daniel, I bet you have the same opinion of this new style county as I do!! You have to check your dial twice to make sure of your station. |

Thanks Keith, I could not of said it better.I was hoping that I could find out some really cool facts on Dickey.
I believe every steel player has certain players that move them in way or another !!
I have studied a ton of his material and I will spend the rest of my dog days imitating and emulating this steel monster !!! |

Dickey Overbey is truly a class act. I love his playing on the Jake Hooker cd's. One of the things that blows me away about that band is that all of the instruments ( at least when there is a string bass in the lineup ) are fretless and they always sound in tune with each other. Dickey is a very expressive steel player and plays with his own voice regardless of where any of the musical ideas he is playing originated. I met Dickey when Jake Hooker played Witchita Falls awhile back. One of the nicest players you will ever meet! I've been a HUGE fan of Jake Hooker, Bobbe Flores, and Darrel McCall ever since. To me, these guys play PERFECT country music. That's the way I want to play, and the kind of music I want to play.
About Daniels comment about sugar coated country--lol!! Actually, to say something nice about it, it sure makes Jake's, Bobbe's and Darrel's music sound that much more great! But then again, the sugar coated country is good filler between commercials! |

Lets not forget the great recordings
and his touring with Faron Young.
We have a lot of Texas greats that Dickey is all over. Justin Trevino,Curtis Potter, Leona Williams, Bobby Flores, and of course Jake Hooker, and Darrell McCall, and Amber Digby. OOPs, almost left out the great Johnny Bush stuff.
Dickey is an awesome player and one of my favorites, and also a dear friend.I have all the current CD's that Dickey has worked on
the past few years,as well as his Steel CD.
If you want the real deal country, this is the way to go.

Does anyone else hear "Ralph Mooney" in Dickie's playing or is it my imagination? When he and the Moon recorded Red Kilby's C-D I was there and Moon said "He plays my stuff better than me!Dickey plays great and is a great person. |

Walter, you are correct, I have the Norma
Jean CD and Dickie plays pretty on it two.
I know he is also working the soon to be
released Ferlin Husky CD. There is also a new
Jake Hooker CD in the works.
Fred, I agree you can hear some Mooney in Dickey's playing as well.
Since the awesome Johnny Cox moved to Texas you can hear a lot of Dickey in Johnny's
playing also. At the Curtis Potter benefit I
was standing with Dickey when Johnny was playing and Dickey made that comment also.
They all play awesome, and thankfully we have them to keep real country alive and well. I don't mean to leave any of the otherlegends out,I was just trying to keep the subject on track.
