One key appears to have a problem.Works counter-clockwise, but only a half turn clockwise (tightening) . It locks up, and appears to not properly engage the teeth on the star gear. It appears the worm gear may be worn, and the solder is also a bit loose on the assembly. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Steve, I have taken them off ( unsoldered them). It's not as tough as it looks. Hold a hot soldering iron to the side of the button (finger piece) and it will release. Heat the tuning machine and it will pull out at the bottom.

If you can take some of the vertical play from the worm gear shaft, the same gear may still work __ if too much pressure has not been placed on it, trying to force it.

You may find a mandolin tuning machine that will have the same ratio gears, from which you could disassemble and retrieve the gears.

Good luck, Rick
