What do you guys think about this. . . . a nationwide Gasoline discount for all Steel Guitar Players. It's now costing me more to travel to play gigs on the weekends. Not to mention driving to St. Louis each year to attend Scotty's annual Convention. I think it would be very fitting if all the major Oil Companies would issue Steel Guitarists a Discount Card to use when on music related business. Say to the tune of 20 cents per gallon! Let's face it, we are a very unique & specialized click. The Oil Campanies should do their part to help preserve the Steel Guitar Industry. Nick

Nick, if the oil companies gave us a discount on our gasoline it might cause this guys retirement package to dwindle. We wouldn't want that now would we. http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Symbol=US:XOM&Feed=AP&Date=20060416&ID=5644691>1=8008

Mr. Raymond gets more than the 167 mil quoted. His total take home package is over 400 Mil. Guess who paid that bill. Exxon/Mobil Corp's benefits paid the stockholders more the last quarter than has ever been made by a Corporation before. Price gauging is the term that should be used and is the very reason for the nationwide Exxon/Mobil boycot that you will see forthcoming. Bill O'Reilly (sp) of Fox News just last night pointed this out to the nation, and that he would not buy one drop of Exxon/Mobil product. Well, welcome aboard Bill, you've just joined an ever increasing group who are being awakened daily. BTW I haven't shopped an Exxon/Mobil station since September of last year. True, even though there are three such service capabilities withing 15 minutes of my house. Join the fun. People quit buying the Exxon/Mobil products, the tank farms fill up with gasoline, and then the prices of Exxon/Mobil fuel will get back to some state of normalcy I may consider shopping with them again. Until that time it's Citgo, Shamrock, Chevron or some other brand for this Indian boy.

I avoid EXXON whenever I can, since they puked oil from a single hull ship and a drunk captin at the wheel in Alaska many years ago.

I finally figured out how to get even with the old double cross (eXXon). I bought their stock. I figured if you can't beat'em might as well join'em.

Seriously, if you think boycotting ExxonMobil is going to hurt them even one bit, you might want to reconsider. ExxonMobil is such a large integrated company that you would have to virtually boycott everything to get around them, since they provide such a diverse array of products to almost every manufacturer on the planet, including steel guitar builders. Even Citgo, Shamrock and Chevron probably get some of their feedstock from the double cross. I haven't noticed that much of a difference, if any, between their prices and Exxon's prices at the pumps here in Houston.

I know that is not much consolation for the price that we are currently paying at the pump. But remember, oil companies don't establish the price, the free market does.

I agree that no one should be paid the $400 MM that Mr. Raymond gets. No one needs that much money except for me!!

I did buy Exxon stock about 25 years ago and it has been the best purchase I ever made. My investment has grown over 96% in that time period. The stock has split at least three times and the dividends are excellent. I'm considering buying more.
