I imagine most tour work now is done on a pay-per-show basis with per diems, maybe even the old weekly contract still exists, etc. My question is: when you get the gig for a tour act what is usual and customary compensation for the rehearsals before you head out? Thanks, -DJ- |

It seems like the pay is wildly different for rehearsals depending on the gig. It seems to generally be about half whatever the day rate of pay ends up working out to for the tour per rehearsal. Ask for twice as much as you think is a wild amount of money and see what you end up with. Don't sell yourself short.

I do a lot of work with Nashville singers when they come to Florida and there has never been any "rehersal" pay - on the ones that there is even a rehersal. A lot is just show up and maybe go over a couple of songs before the show or if you're lucky get some charts and that's it.
Even on the Tommy Cash show tours, that are a month long, we will have one or maybe two rehersals to set the show and go over the material but even those are not paid. |

I guess it depends on whether or not the tour is going to make any money, but... Usually at least $100 up to half show pay, but I've heard of $75 and nothing for rehearsals, or I've gotten full show pay too. Most of these kinds of things can be arbitrated with the managment of the artist, or the label if there is one.
Good luck,

Hey Doug, if a tour brings you to the Sacramento area.... be sure and let us know. I'd love to hear you play again. Folks, if you haven't head Doug play yet, it's a real treat..... very smooth!
Good luck on the rehearsal pay.

Probably most artists expect free rehersals in return for the privilege of touring with them nowadays! In my circumstance, I'd probably have to pay them to allow me to rehearse or tour with them! And even then, it's doubtful¡
