The female singer is Martina McBride. She's had top 40 country hits for a decade or so.
I would bet the clapping from the people in the crowd after Paul's steel ride was for him. The camera work was good, but could have been great if the camera was on Paul when the solo began. Martina's steel player Wayne, also does a great job live in concert with Martina. Martina's brother who plays acoustic guitar in her band is also a fine steel player and played steel for a short time with Tracy Lawrence before Martina got her record deal on RCA.
I think the "Timeless" CD by Martina is a great CD and Paul is the steel player on all the cuts. A real treat to hear Paul do the classics, of course it's always a treat to listen to such a great player no matter what music he's playing. I love to hear Paul's jazz inspired playing on Brent Mason's "Hot Wired" CD. Truly amazing playing.

I stopped tuning into country radio because my tastes weren't evolving with the times and this band I use to play with would bring in the required covers for us to learn. Enough radio exposure there. The other reason I tuned out radio was the producers tone of choice for steel. Simply stated, on most cuts that were being played around my area, the steel sounded like road apples. Seems like the powers to be wanted steel not to sound like steel. Another incident was a solo that was raved about sooooo much on Bob's Forum that Bouton did a few years ago. Anyway, Bouton's big deal solo was replaced by a guitar solo. That was the last straw for me, no more country radio. Yep, yet another example of the powers to be fishing for a net profit solution. Anywho, I have a vague recollection of Franklin and Martin's performance talked about on this Forum, a high profile gig somewhere where his guitar had better than acceptable tone, and it does!!! The only thing missing, at least for me is the Burger King mascot smile plastered on P F's face. Thanks for sharing the link.

Thanks for the information. I probably stopped listening to top 40 music 15 years ago with exception of Goerge Strait and few other singles I HAD to learn for the band I was playing in. I kind of lost track of all the new guys that came along after George Strait, mainly because I liked it back when as as soon as you heard a kick off or a vocal, you knew what band was playing. But Ms. Mcbride is certianly s strong singer even if I dont care for female singers.....James

It was great hearing Paul play that classic style. What I'd really like would be to have the roles reversed: Paul takes the verses and choruses, and Martina sings a little 8-bar thing in the middle. It'll never happen, though. sigh
Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the music, but I was shocked to see Paul Franklin playing. Here I thought the guy was a real steeler, but he looks reasonably attractive, not overweight, and he seems to have all of his hair!
