Does anyone know why some Regal logos display San Francisco just under the Regal name and some do not? Very perplexing while recently shopping for a Regal RD-52 "Black Lightning".
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

Regal Dobros were mfg in California from 1932 until 1937; then moved from California to Chicago. The San Francisco logo designation is probably for the instruments mfg from 1932-1937.

Gene,
Thank you, but I have noticed the distinction of some do/ some don't have the San Francisco on brand new Regal instruments of the same model. Such as the RD-52 Regal. I was wondering if this is a mark of B stock or varied from store to store for some reason.

I just picked up a new Regal RD-40 and it has "San Francisco" on the logo.

Incidently, this new model is just a beautiful guitar. I got mine in the cherry sunburst and that along with the intricate inlay on the headstock makes for an outstandiang value at $369.99!

New Regals are manufactured in Asia (Korea and China?) and distributed by Saga Musical Instruments of San Francisco. My guess is that the difference in labels is just a change in spec and indicates old vs. new stock.

Here's some historical info about Regal, which dates back to 1896.

Thanks for the corrections.....obviously, I misunderstood the question.

I assumed that the question pertained to reso instruments affixed with the "Dobro" logo that were made under license by Regal. It was my mistake as in reading Tommy's post again I see that he did not mention "Dobro" in his post

I also own a resonator instrument that has a "Regal" logo with the San Francisco designation, that I bought in the 1980's.
