At our gig las night a steel playing friend gave me a couple of Mike Sweeney CD's.
Words elude me,This man is a master, the feeling is frightening.
Why have'nt I heard of him before.I make apologies,Living in a far off country we are not always aware of what is happening in the land of the steel(so to speak)Surley this player should be on the main stage at Dallas and St Louis.
John Hughey brings tears to my eyes when he plays.so does Mike Sweeney.
Best regards
Billy |

If you ever come to the US to visit, get to Nashville and ask somebody how to get to "lower Broad" (Broadway) . For the price of a beer, you can hear Mike puttin' that "just right" steel on the audience several times a week. In fact, you can wander door to door down there and maybe see and hear three or four good players, depending...it's steel heaven! Look me up if you ever make it over this way. |

Billy, coincidently I have been listening to Mike's "Steelin'on Broadway" cd for the last few days. It had been awhile since I had heard it and I was on my way to a gig where I get to play steel all night with a great classic country band so I put on Mike's cd for inspiration. He is a tremendous player. He has been living in Nashville since the late '80s or early 90's. I think he is currently doing sessions, playing steel shows and local Nashville gigs. As great as he sounds on his cd's, he sounds even better live. A definate "must see" if you ever get to visit Nashville. [This message was edited by Bob Watson on 22 January 2006 at 03:44 PM.] |

Hi Billy
maybe some excuses for not listening to him. But you should have read about him on this great forum here.
He and Teresa are really nice people and always a pleasure to meet.
Great teacher also.

Mike is a super player and a great guy even if he couldn't pick a note, which he can. We had him at our Dairy State jam last year and everybody loved him. We hope to have Mike back in the future. But till then, I plan on catching him in Davenport, Iowa in April at the Quad Cities Jam. |

I've seen Mike a couple of times recently down on Broadway and then at the Nashville Jam this past October. He not only played a 'fresh set' of songs but his tone was the best along with Paul Franklin. Mike was playing his Zum through a N-400 and wow. I'd like see Mike play at our Alabama Super Jam this summer?! |

Mike is one of my favorites. He not only plays great E9, but that guy can literally eat up a C6 neck. Mike and Teresa are great people, and Teresa reproduces all of my CD's on professional equipment -- including cover design, artwork, printing directly on the CD's, etc. Super people.

I was just lucky enough to be passing through Nashville a few weeks ago and went into Gruen Guitars. Then I heard steel from afar and wound up inside Legends where Mike was performing with James somebody? I listened for a few hours. A huge amount of talent and the Zum wasn't too bad either! Enjoyed the afternoon so much I wound up spending an extra night unplanned. Well worth it. Go see him when you can. |

In my opinion, Mike is one of today's leading players of "expression". He conveys the true feeling of the instrument. |

Well,
I'll add my 2cent's worth!
I first met Mike about 5 years ago. I was trying to get a steel jam going here in East Tenn. Mike was working at the Nashville Palace then. He called me,and asked if he could come to my jam! Of course I agreed. He is a Great player..and very respected in Nashville and every where he performs.and he and Terressa are just great people. Also at that jam were Herby Walace, and Bryan Adams..two more excelent talants that give their time and help freely! |
