He did it his way! This was evidenced in Connie's 40th anniversary show on Midnight Jamboree. Jack opened with "I'll Come Running" then later he did a fabulous fill on "Run Away Little Tear". One could sense he was in complete control... several steel players were there that night to honor Connie. Weldon's presence seem to encourage rather than intimidate. To his honor, Jack Smith is also a humanitarian. He seems to enjoy helping other people; from selling a guitar to visiting the sick "Jack Smith... a credit to the profession!...a super entertainer and human... |

Jack definitely is a super player. I have mentioned here before about him playing with the "Happy Goodman Family" back in the 70's. I have a live album recorded in St. Louis and the steel playing is awesome as well as his tone. It is apparent here that Jack is a fantastic person as well. I look forward to the day I see him play live, like at the Texas show. |

I have an album Titled "Connie Smith Live In Branson" She has a medley of hits and Jack Smith is introduced as the band leader, What a player. I first met Jack when he played steel and sang harmony for Johnny Paycheck at the Shy Clown Casino in Sparks Nevada, I made a tape of the show that nite and Johnny played "I feel like an old violin" for the first time. Jack did the chimes on his steel that sounded like the bells of heaven. I will never forget.

Jack is one of the finest players I've ever listened to. Last time I heard him was last year on the MJ w/ Connie. A real pleasure to listen to what he's going to do. Perfect tone, execution and perfect intonation on his guitar. I don't mind turning the volume up when he on. |
