Is there any pedal steel in L.A. next week, from Feb.8-10 or out in Long Beach on the
11th. Would love to know about any good Country or Bluegrass clubs happening at that time in the area. Thanks in advance for any info.

Randy, Christian Simmons is playing at the Cowboy Country in N. Long Beach on Feb. 10 & 11. No steel, unfortunately, but the band is great, and the lead man is fabulous, and does dabble on steel at home, just not onstage with this band.

Have fun!

Randy, if you can stay one more day, you really ought to check out Doug's gig with Kathy. The band has no guitar. It's steel, bass and drums. A virtual Doug Livingstone concert.

The great Al Vescovo is playing thursday night. Al is up there in the same league as Buddy Emmons and Reece Anderson. He is playing at a jazz club, with a horn band. The band only plays jazz. No country whatsoever. It's all Ellington and Basie type stuff, and Al proves that in his hands at least, the steel is a ligitimate jazz instrument.

A steel player that isn't mentioned often enough here is Rick Shea. Saw him last month at Ronnie Mack's barndance, he was backing James Intvelt and also Mike Stinson. Two GREAT acts. Might be worth checking what those cats are up to this month. Their websites are easy to find. There may even be a barn dance the week you're in town.

Also, last month, Marty Rifkin was in the house band. Great player too!

Earnest, you mentioned Kathy Robertson. Sometime in the early 80's or so, I was playing steel for Eddie Drake at the "Next Time Country" in Covina. We had Red Simpson guest with us a couple of times and he brought a female vocalist with him by the same name (Kathy Robertson) who was working the road with him. They'd just returned from a trip to Holland. Would that be the same girl? If it's her and she'd like, I can send her a CD of her part of the show..........Thanks, JH in Va.
