I stopped in at the local Wally World over the weekend and picked up a Ray Price CD called "Ray Price Collection".
Besides having 20 great Ray Price songs on the CD, as a bonus, there was also included a DVD of a performance Ray put on at Doc Severson's theatre in Oklahoma City.
All of the Cherokee Cowboys were present including JIMMY DAY. In fact, Ray introduced him and the DVD features several closeups of Jimmy playing his "blue darlin'".
It might be something you'll want to check out for your own selfs.

Erv thanks for the post. Fortunately, I was at Doc's the night that video was filmed and saw the show "live".
It was a great show, and I believe it was one of Jimmy's rare appearances with Ray in his later years. It was obviously a nostalgia trip for both of them.

Gene,
You are correct! Ray even made mention of the fact that Jimmy was back after a considerable leave of absence. |

Erv, I spent an hour at our wallyworld and found not a trace of this DVD , nor could I find it on their website. Could you give us some particulars on the DVD publisher and perhaps some identifying titles and numbers? |

Robert,
I will send you an e-mail from Amazon.com
Amazon.com doesn't show the DVD until you go into the list of songs and then it shows that 13 of the songs are on a DVD.
If you go to Amazon.com and bring up "popular music", punch in "Ray Price Collection", it will bring up the CD you are looking for. |

HI Erv, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting us know about this CD. I just purchased a copy from Border's Books and Music, locally and have just watched the DVD. I think that this is one of the best if now the best buy I have ever acquired. Also on the DVD there is his Bio and some stories about Ray. He joined the USMC in 1942 for the duration of the war, Semper Fi, Ray if you see this. I might add that getting to see Jimmy Day and his blue Sho-Bud really made my day. I wonder who has that guitar now? Thanks again Erv! |

I dont know which year of Jimmy's Blue Darling you are asking about , but I have his 1967 model Blue Darling. I bought it from him in 1988. All the finish had cracked and was flaking off. It had a " peace" sign that was hand painted by a friend of his on the front. Heres the killer..... I loaned it to my cousin who was wanting to learn to play steel.... he decided to do me a favor and sanded it down and refinished it.... I couldnt even speak.. just stood there speechless.... |

I think that Jimmy Day did an excellent job on the dvd; I haven't played the cd yet but "The Chief" has never disappointed me. Twice Ray mentions Jimmy's name and the crowd seemed to love it. Are there any more dvds of Jimmy similar to this? I envy anyone that knew Jimmy. What a fantastic musician. |

The thing that has always amazed me about Jimmy Day was that his cool playing was never done on a guitar with more than 4 levers and 8 pedals....or so I believe....anyone that knows otherwise feel free to post. |

The DVD is definitely a keeper. Nice shots of Jimmy Day doing several steel breaks.
Gotta go practice... |

Today I was at a local store in Amsterdam and I stumbled on a DVD which had only the performance Ray put on at Doc Severson's theatre in Oklahoma City. It only cost $5.-. Great to see Jimmy Day on his Blue Darlin' Sho-Bud Super Pro II.
I'm happy!
