It is 11:08 PM EST and Tommy White just brought chills to my spine when he took his break on The White's "Makin' Believe"

Incredible rendition by Tommy. He just gets better and better. Unbelievable taste and clarity along with a tone to die for.

God bless you Tommy. And all of you,

carl

Does it matter what guitar he is playing as long as it sounded good.

Tommy was playing his Carter, and no it doesn't matter "what guitar he plays!"

Dave..are you crazy for telling everyone that Tommy was playing his Carter..!! geeshh...!!!

That would totally dispell the stories of Carters having bad tone, being an inferior Steel..etc...

You've got your nerve...

Carl,

Thanks for the post! I pulled up the archives and listened to his wonderful performance on Making Believe. I was equally knocked out by his performance on Keep on the Sunnyside. He absolutely nailed it. I think that's first time I've ever heard Sunnyside on the steel.

For those who haven't listened to the archives yet, John Hughey was playing with Vince and did an "out of the park" performance on "Look at Us".

Respectfully,
Dave Burr

What really gave credence to Tommy's break was even Buck White made an aural jesture during that turn around. And this man tears up a piano. So if it got to him, one KNOWS it was an outstanding peformance.

Also, "Keep on the Sunnyside" was incredibly good. This young virtuoso may just end up among the greats of the greatest. He is like other unusually talented people like Tiger Wood, Ted Williams, etc.

And what a wonderful guy for this to be happening to. I cannot get over the clarity of each note. And the taste with which Tommy chooses which one to play at any given time.

How any person can achieve this on our beloved instrument is beyond my ability to fathom. Yet Paul Franklin and of course the greatest of all (BE) do it effortlessly.

God bless them, and all of you,

carl

Fred,

click on the following link:

http://www.wsmonline.com./#

Then look for "rchives under" the Grande Ole Opry menu. Then you will find dates of past archived shows that you can listen to in their entirety.

Also, you will get a pop up that will ask you your modem speed. If you do not have DSL, cable or a broadband modem, you will have frequent "drop" outs as your buffer fills while you listen. This is normal for slower speed modems.

Good luck,

carl

Thanks Carl for the link to the archieve. Boy you were right. Tommy White did a terriffic job on Making Beleive. I think a lot of people have forgot that the Opry is a lot more than just the hour we see on CMT.

Fred,

I am not sure why. I use the link every Friday and Saturday nights. So I cannot say why it does not work for you.

You're welcome Charlie. Tommy will be one of the greatest ever been in time. But ya know something Charlie? I could sit and listen to you play all night. God bless you dear friend,

That particular song "making' believe" on that particuar set of the opry with the whites is about at the 3:30 mark on that player. It is very ere how much Tommy's playing sounds like Lloyd Green> tone and phrasing.....and of course his Tommy White Twist to it...and Tommy is certainly his own man with his own style and perfection in playing....but he wears his influence on his sleeve on that song and is to me> "A Large Compliment to Lloyd Green"...

Ricky thanks for the time mark, it is right on.
Every time I hear Tommy White play today, I think back about 25 years or so when I first hear him and thought man, that kid can do it all, and today he's doing it even better.
It's no wonder to me that Emmons calls him "Killer".
Great playing Tommy!

Yes thanks Ricky for the time mark. I have just listened to the archive again, and Tommy's break comes in at 3:35:56.

And ole Buck's "Oh YEAH!!" just after Tommy's embelishment of the PF knee lever lick; bespeaks of what we are talking about.

And again, keep on listening to Tommy as he tears up "Keep on the Sunny Side" which follows.

Tommy, you are a classic. May Jesus continue to nourish this awesome talent that is making some of us (at least) wanna take a chain saw to our axes

That really is some awesome playing, on both of those songs.

Carl thanks for posting this. This forum is awesome. Due to someone like yourself finding this gem that I would have never known of, and the archive technology of WSM, I recorded that to a MP3 file for my everlasting enjoyment.

Best regards,
Terry Downs

Thank you Terry Downs.Another Tommy White gem fer sure.

A friend of mine made me a copy of the Whites doing this song on the Opry 3 or 4 years ago. When it came time for the turn around Buck said "Lloyd Green, this is just for you."Tommy cut lose and I've never heard him play better.Open strings coming at you from all directions.Lloyd Green licks with the Lloyd nuances. An then he puts a little Tommy spin on it.I only wish I could share this with you guys. But I have no way to do it at this time.

Again thanks so much to Terry for the MP3.

Roger, when you get to this link, hold your cursor over "listen" and a drop down window should open. Then hold your cursor over "archives", then just keep moving your cursor until you can click on the Opry. This stuff is hard to explain! Hope this helps!
