There's a full-length article in the March 2006 issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine (issue with cover photo of Santana), discussing various guitarists and steel players for Bob Wills, Spade Cooley and other western swingsters of yesteryear. Included, with nice bios and photos are:
Leon McAuliffe
Eldon Shamblin
Noel Boggs
Jimmy Wyble
Junior Barnard
Herb Remington
Bobby Koefer
Billy Bowman

I got my issue about a week ago. What a thrill it is to see a guitar magazine writing about great musicians and some of the greatest music ever recorded instead of who's playing with Ozzy this week. Now listen to me! I'm starting to sound like an old fart.

what a great issue of Vintage Guitar.

Santana was ok,but I really enjoyed the article on some of my favorite steelers.

they are mentioned here often. now I have a historical reference.

I wish I were older sometimes. I could have seen them live.

Well I'm not an old fart - 27, but I love Western Swing. I can't wait to get the issue!

Might mention that Reece Anderson and Bob White also done some steel work with Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys in later years.

My best friend's dad grew up with Smokey Dacus (Bob Will's drummer) and my friend's Uncle sang with the Will's bunch too. I used to dig the stories about those guys.

GOD bless!
