In the olden days, many of the day's songs were upbeat and fun to play. They just evoked a special feeling of well being. Today "Murder on Broadway" and other similarly dreary titles are on the top 40.

I nominate "Pardon me, I've got someone to kill" as best upbeat song of the past.

Very nice ray of sunshine on a cold winter's morning. I, too, have had it up to here with the badass attitude that seems to dominate the airwaves today. It's so tired and boring. Thanks for sharing, Ray!

The story told by "Farewell Party"... I'm dead now, just show up and fake affection one last time for my friends' sake, even though you're actually enjoying the fact that I'm dead... is always good for a smile and a laugh.

Like "Roly Poly".

An upbeat song about positive self image and healthy lifestyle for the youth of America.

Ray this may explain why the song:
"No thanks, drinken makes me naked"
Never made it to number one!

"Lotta Leavin' Left To Do" is a fun song. It's got fast steel parts. It was the first single on Dierks Bentley's "Modern Day Drifter" record. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10

+1 on Brett's suggestion for Dierks Bently.

Brad Paisley's had a couple, "Celebrity," "Alcohol," "Me Neither," and several that never made the radio.

Joe Nichols has had a few, "Honkytonksville," and "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" are a couple.

Tracy Byrd has had one or two, and (flame suit on) Garth's new single, and Toby's had had a few. (flame suit off).

"Some Beach," by Blake Shelton is another. Alan Jackson had that "Talking Song."

Gosh, that's several in the last couple years, and most of them have steel. Guess you have to separate the wheat from the chaff sometimes.

"Welllll----it's 40 below...." Yeah that's a fun one, but not in mixed company. I also like "Hot Rod Lincoln," and "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares." In the "silly" category, Lonny Donnegan's "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight" comes to mind.

Brad Paisley's "Me Neither" and "I'm Gonna Miss Her" are two very fun songs, along with Brad's other hits, "Alcohol", "Celebrity", and "Mud On The Tires". Also, there's Dierks Bentley's first song "What Was I Thinkin'", another upbeat song. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10

For fun songs it's hard beat the Geezinslaws. "Help I'm White and I Can't get Down" and "Copenhagen" are couple of my favorites. I just borrowed one of their cassettes from my father-in-law and it's not only funny, but has some great pickin' on it. Buddy Emmons, Brent Mason, David Smith, and many others of that caliber.

Gary Lee, the guy who sang the rodeo song is a friend of mine. He has done a 180 turnaround from his wild and mis-spent past and is now teaching attention defecit and fetal alcohol syndrome children how to play fiddle and guitar. He specializes in Meti fiddle playing. He says it's a blast.
