| That was a gorgeous steel guitar solo on Martina McBride's "Help me make it through the night" last night on the CMA's. Simple but extremely effective and beautiful round tone. Anyone know who that was? |

| I'd like to know what pickups Martina's steel player has on that "Carter", (not knowing the musician's name, I believe Randle was on earlier with another singer), and what type amp he used. Fantastic sound, man I loved it. |

Randle is now playing an MSA.
Wayne Dahl used to play into a Roland GP-100 with XR-16 picups, I think.

That was a fine solo the young man did. Reminded me of back in the day when steel was prominant in a country song. However, i heard more steel last night than i have in a while at an awards show, seemed to be more out in the open. I was convinced that PF was gonna take the award for " musician ...", sorry he was passed over by the whoevers that voted. Not to take away from Jerry D., he's a fantastic picker. God bless you all.

Me too Skip! More steel than I've heard lately on the radio it seems. I also noticed that the audience had a good bit of applause after several steel solo's by different musicians. Can you imagine that in NEW YORK? The crowd really seemed to enjoy the steel guitar.

According to the liner notes in the booklet, the only player listed for steel guitar is Paul Franklin.

Bob Snelgrove is correct, Wayne uses the xr-16 on his Carters. Also, Randle played with several of the acts last night and was playing his new MSA. What a great looking guitar!

I have the "Timeless" CD and it only notes Paul. He is all over the tracks, and well up in the mix. Great stuff. The solo Wayne did on the show was great, but the one PF does on the album puts chills up my spine. Just an old Sho-Bud and acoustic guitar, clear as a bell. This album is in with my steel CDs not the country ones. Well worth the cost (22 tracks).
The CMA show had some great steel last night, but...
Who was the steel player for Rock and Roll act - BonJovi? no kidding he had a steel and the guy actually played it. I couldn't tell the make from the shots.

I never heard a note he played. But it looked like a GFI to me.

I could hear steel last night. But with the exception of the guy with Dirks Bently and the things Paul did from the pit. It sounded like the steelers mic was off and he was comming thru the quitar players or someone elses mic. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe just some problem on my end?..bb |

I noticed many of the acts last night were playing to music tracks and the musicians were just for looks. I saw fiddlers fiddling and guitarist guitaring but what they were doing didn't match the music. There were some awsome musicians there last night but they made terible actors. Wayne Dahl is one great player and He did exceptionaly well on Martina'a CMT special a few weeks ago. I just bought the new "Timeless" CD today at Wally world, listing to it now. PF is the man.......

All recognition goes to Paul F. for playing that beutiful solo, "Help Me Make It Through The Night" I just immulated what he played and tried to do so with as much feeling as he had on the album.
Jeremy, BTW, is correct about the XR-16's
that are used in my Carter. The amp I used was a Nashville 400 if any were wondering. Thanks to all for the kind words.

Bob, Yes, I'm still using the GP-100.
But for all the TV shows we've been doing lately, I've been using amps. One exception
would be the CMT special "Timeless" where I went direct into the sound board using the GP-100.

Wayne, we have had a chance to catch a few of the Martina shows with you playing.
You my friend are second to NON....
you take a back seat to nobody..
keep the great stuff coming..
I personally think you have the BEST Steel gig in the world today...
by the way on the album PF plays an ALL WOOD Franklin...
How do I know ? He told me..uhh...make that US ...when we saw him downtown with the Players. |

About singing and lip synching with tracks, I noticed that when Allison Krause was doing her tune that she'd play her fiddle solo but after she started singing there was still fiddle in the backup music and she was just holding hers.....JH in Va.

I love my GP-100. It does a nice job of going direct.
When you use the Roland live, do you go into the front of an amp or use the power amp in?

Bob,
The roland is used to go direct into the sound board. I dont use it with an amp for effects or eq. Right now I prefer pedal effects when using amps.
