I was listening to a radio station this morning that plays a lot of old stuff, they played a Tex Ritter song "don't slam the door" I think it was, And there was a lot of steel fills (like the fills on Gene Autry songs), then there was a steel turnaround that was pretty good, non pedal of course but good! I was wondering if any one knows who the steeler was on those great Tex Ritter songs ? Just wondering?

Robert, just a guess, but it could have been Don Davis or Jerry Byrd back then. I can think of about a half dozen that were doing sessions back then. Maybe someone else might know for sure.

I saw Tex Ritter in 71 or 73 at the Mermaid Club here in Minneapolis, Jack Watkins was playing Steel & Guitar with Tex, Jack was married to Connie Smith & played guitar with her when I worked several road dates with her in 69. au

Don Davis and Pete Martinez recorded with Tex a lot, starting in 1950 most of the Tex Ritter recordings were done in California, with Speedy West on steel.

Kind Regards, Walter
