I just got back from seeing George Jones tonight. Tom Killen was the steeler, as I'm sure a lot of you know. I talked to him briefly after the show (very nice man), and got a peek at his Sho-Bud Pro 2 - jeez, what a machine! Absolutely beautiful. And it sounded great as well. He asked me how the mix was out front, and I told him the truth: it was perfect. He was using a Profex 2 straight to the board, with in-ear monitors.
It was nice to see - and more importantly, to hear - this great country steel player featured predominantly in a such a string of classic country hits.
Oh ya, George was pretty good too.... |

Chris:
We did alot of shows around the world with George back in the 70s and early 80s (even one in Newfoundland) and you're right on about Tom. He plays great and is a super guy. I haven't seen him since he got the Pro II, but I'm sure it's a classic sound he's getting that mates well with George's classic hits.
If I recall correctly I would say Tom has been with George since late 1982. Not nearly as long as Norm Hamlet has been with Merle Haggard but still a very long stint nontheless.
Sincerely'

A group I was with opened for GJ a few times in 1981, and Tom had just started on the gig.
Really nice guy, great player. He was playing an LDG back then. |
