I'm told that original Eagles band member "Bernie Leadon" did the Steel work on their song "Best of My Love". Does anyone know it Bernie is still around?
I'd almost forgotten what a great tune this was, and it came out over 30 years ago. It's got tasteful Steel Guitar fills all throughout.
I'm playing around with it here at the house. I think we're gonna start playin it at gigs. It's one that will mix well with our band's traditional country format.

On the On The Border album, Al Perkins plays on Ole '55 so it must be Bernie on steel for Best of my Love. I always thought it was Al until I looked it up.

Speakin' of AL Perkins, I noticed on his Snapshots c d he has a TEXAS STEEL GUITAR ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME CERTIFICATE.
When was he inducted to that group? Just curious.

Several Eagles songs work great for steel instrumentals. I play "Lyin' Eyes" quite a bit. There is a steel guitar instrumental CD out of all Eagles songs, it is one of my favorites. I can't remember all the players but Johnny Cox and Gary Morse were both on it I think. There is also a CD available with all Eric Clapton songs played on pedal steel. It is really good too.

I was minding the Taylor Guitars booth at Merlefest a few years ago, and Bernie stopped by to say hello. He's a personable guy.

I've often wondered why Randy Meisner, Bernie and Don Felder don't get together and do something- that's 3/5ths of the old Eagles, and they're all great players.

...probably for the same reason I don't play in bands with some of the people I used to play with!

Cool, I would have never guessed in a million years that "Best of my Love" was played on a ZB.

Al Perkins Contributed a great imitation pedal steel part( he kind of implied the pedals without doing it and created a great sound)on Dwight Yoakum's "It Only Hurts Me When I Cry"....

For those of you who like the Eagles songs, have you heard the CD titled "The Steel Guitar Tribute to the Eagles?" This CD has "Best of My Love" and "Lyin' Eyes" along with eight other songs. Credits indicates the steel work was done by Robby Turner, Johnny Cox and Gary Morse.

I apologize Darvin. I didn't read your post all the way through before I submitted my reply.

Hi Rodney, I don't think it's in the forum catalog. I got mine off eBay. Just do a search on "Steel Guitar Tribute to the Eagles."
