I would like clarify something.
I can't walk out of my door without someone commenting on me playing a Mullen guitar.
Someone just told me that they were told that I had left Zum and had ordered another Mullen. They wouldn't tell me who told them.
I don't understand where people are getting all of this information.
For those that are really concerned about what I am playing;
About 2 years ago, Del Mullen told me that he would like to build me a guitar. I told him that I would be glad to try one.
I got the guitar this year in St Louis. I have it in my music room where I'm adjusting the pedals & knee pedals. I have not taken the guitar out and played it yet.
I told Del that I would try the guitar and if it beats my Zum, I will play it. If not, I will send it back to him. That's the way it stands today and I do not have another Mullen ordered.
As soon as I can take the guitar out and play it, I will let Del know what I think. Until then, I'm still playing my Zum.
I would like to leave it at that until you hear anything further, directly from me. Don't believe what you hear until you hear it from me.

Thanks,John. It was good of you to take the time to clarify that. But... We all know that you would sound great if all you had was a Multi-Kord and an old Magnatone amp.
I am so bonded to my Marlen that I would have to play another guitar a long time to learn to like it. I'm sure you feel the same way about your Zum. ..... JD

Mr John, how about playin that Mullen at Ronnie's this month.  Or are you goin to be at Ronnie's? I sure enjoyed your playin and gettin to meet you last Oct.

Yes, I'm gonna be at Ronnie's this month but I doubt if I play the Mullen. I'm gonna play it around town here to try it out.

I love anything John plays but I still miss the Hughey/Emmons tone. That was definitive JH (to me)

| I really like John's playing as well as a lot of others. But I really liked his and Buddy's playing in the 70's, when they where playing their Emmons P/P guitars. But then again either one of these guy's, would sound good on anything they played. And they have done proved that. |

John Hughey....there's only one man (in my opinion) that plays better than him and that's the Big "E". These two are my heroes on pedal steel guitar. John sounds great on anything that I've ever heard him play on. I know what he's after on a guitar, and he can correct me if I'm wrong. 1. Tone and 2. Overall playability of the guitar......I think that's what we all want. Each one of us is different and expect different things from the instrument(s) we play. I'm still partial to the Emmons single coil p/u for tone....and I wish my SKH LeGrand had the playability of the Zum or Mullen. Those are both smooth playing guitars.....Just my opinion. Thank You John for telling people what is going on. I try and push them off one by one but this will hit a few more at one time. We are right with what John is saying. He is trying one of our guitars out and we will go from there, no rush, no commitment. It is hard to please these picky Nashville guys. haha.

I didn't mean to stir up anything here tho.
Just wanted to clarify the situation from the horse's mouth, ya'know.
Anyway, thanks again.
I haven't heard back from Bobby on the Multi-Kord. I guess he's holding firm on his offer. Ha!!

| Hi John. Did you try the trick on your changer fingers yet? (polish with Mother's Mag and Aluminum ) It really will extend your string life. It sure helped me. I really enjoyed picking with you at the Racket Jam in Missouri at Bill Jobes place. Hope to see you at the convention next year. As usual you sounded GREAT!! |

well personally i dont think it makes a lot of difference to a seasoned player what he plays on it will sound good. its just personal prefference of what they like to play on. I like carters but because of reasons i will not own a carter. i met bruce last winter or early spring and got a zum i love it and he is close enough that i can take it to him if something is wrong with it.that was my reason for getting a zum but after i got it i think it is top shelf but thats just my oppinion. it should not be a question of what brand your playing but how your playing. with me its what songs i play. but thats just me. thanks doc

I was a Sho~ Bud player ,ascended to a Mullen As i have said B/4 Words can not begin to descrbe John Hughey's Tone in Indianapolis.....Simply Put Overwhelming!
